CBD Oil is a by-product of the cannabis plant and has been gaining increasing attention across the globe for its health and beauty benefits. Different to the cannabis we are familiar with or have heard all of the bad things about, these products are quite separate and can be incredibly helpful.
Let’s have a closer look at CBD, what it can do for your body, and what products may be beneficial for you.
What is CBD Oil?
Cannabidiol oil is extracted from marijuana plants and appears as an ingredient in some medicines (including epilepsy treatments). Many states in the US have legalized the use of CBD oil, however, the knowledge around this is in its infancy, and the evidence supporting it is still being built up.
CBD oil is not psychoactive
It is natural to be concerned about any by-product of the marijuana plant; for most, this herb doesn’t have a great reputation. Our most common understanding of marijuana is that it gets you ‘high’ and causes a mental disconnect.
CBD is a compound in the plant, which is totally different from the THC compound, the latter being the psychoactive one. CBD doesn’t cause the same sort of effects as THC and medically approved CBD contains such trace elements of THC that this effect is not created.
The Endocannabinoid System in your Body
The Endocannabinoid (or EC) system in your body affects how your body and brain transmit messages to each other, including information about pain, mood, nausea, tremors, and many other feelings and senses. It also affects movement and reaction.
Cannabinoids are natural chemicals that your body produces which communicate with the EC system and regulate body functions. The receptors for these are all through your body cells and in your brain.
The EC system sends messages to your brain from the neurons in the body, but does so in a different way to the usual receptors. Usually, neurons (post-synaptic) pass messages to other neurons (pre-synaptic) to tell the brain and body what to do.
The EC system works backward in that the pre-synaptic cells talk to the post-synaptic cells rather than the other way around. Experts state that this difference means the cannabinoids can help control what the cells do next, and help to control things like pain, mood, and the reactions in the body that cause seizures.
Taking CBD oil supplements may help your body to regulate itself in facing a variety of diseases and conditions.
The Benefits of CBD
CBD oil is interesting in the breadth of conditions that it has shown to help. It helps the body to manage pain, to control unnecessary reactions and systems such as those causing panic attacks or tremors. It affects mood, temperature, inflammation, cognitive functions and the release of hormones such as serotonin and dopamine.
It also inhibits certain genes in the body, including those that have been known to cause or advance several cancers.
It has been successful in reducing seizures for adults and children with severe epilepsy as one example, allowing them to live relatively normal lives.
Conditions that CBD may be beneficial for:
Parkinson’s and Huntington’s diseases
Treating a number of different cancers and stroke
Helping with spinal injury and neuropathic pain
Anxiety and depression
CBD Products that you should consider
While some US states have legalized the use of medicinal marijuana, there are still many who have yet to confirm the benefits of cannabis over the possible negative effects.
CBD oil products are also not permitted in all states, but are gaining more legal support than cannabis, and are more readily available. They are legalized in New York state, and Eric’s sells and recommends a number of these products.
Capsules and Supplements
CBD oil can be consumed in capsules, or added as a liquid to things like milk or cereal for consumption. The oil can be taken daily to help with conditions like anxiety, depression, ADHD, and epilepsy, and are easily swallowed.
The oil is also available in an edible form including gummies which are perfect for children. As the use of CBD oil for children with severe conditions gains support through medical research, more and more parents are turning to this option to treat their children.
They can be taken daily to manage ongoing conditions, or as needed to help with things like inflammation or pain.
Topical Oil – Tinctures and Cream
CBD oil is available in a number of products that can be topically applied, including cream for pain and inflammation.
It is also available in some beauty products, with research showing that it may help slow the effects of aging on your skin. CBD oil directly reduces inflammation in the skin cells, helping them to work better, as well as aiding in the treatment of conditions like acne and eczema.
It also stimulates the skins natural hydration and oil production, which prevents dryness and nourishes your skin. You can purchase CBD infused serums, eye cream and face masks, to name a few lovely products.
You can also buy CBD infused bath salts to help calm your mind and relax your body after a hard day, as well as help to look after your skin.
The research on the anti-aging capabilities of CBD is still in the early stages, but many customers swear by it, and we certainly think it’s worth a try.
